When Zionists and “Jihadists” Join Hands: Syria Accuses Israel of Supporting Al Nusra Rebels

DAMASCUS, (SANA) – Foreign and Expatriates Ministry sent two identical letters to President of UN Security Council (UNSC) and UN Secretary-General on the Israeli attack which targeted the Scientific Research Center in Jamraya in Damascus Countryside.

The Ministry said that Israeli warplanes violated the Syrian airspace on Wednesday dawn, January 30th, 2013 sneaking from the north of Al-Sheikh Mountain, flying at a low altitude and below radars, and heading to Jamraya in Damascus Countryside where a branch of a scientific research center is located and bombarded the location.

The letters added that the bombardment resulted in the martyrdom of two personnel and the injury of five others, causing huge material damage and destruction to the building, in addition to a vehicular development center and a garage before sneaking away in the same way.

The Ministry stressed that the reports aired by some media outlets claiming that the Israeli warplanes targeted a convoy heading from Syria to Lebanon are baseless.

It stressed that this aggression comes after the failed attempts of the armed terrorist groups for months to seize the location and after Israel in cooperation with the enemies of the Syrian people used their tools to strike vital and military selected sites in the Syrian state as those tools, and Jabhat al-Nusra on top, managed to attack some of these sites which included air defenses and vital points during the past months and failed to attack many others.

The Ministry added these attempts and the direct aggression which followed carried out by Israeli aircrafts on the scientific research center prove that Israel is the motive, beneficiary and sometimes the perpetrator of the terrorist attacks taking place in Syria.

The Ministry added that the Syrian Arab Republic requests that the UNSC issues a clear condemnation of the flagrant Israeli attack on the territories of a sovereign state and the Israeli violation of the UN Charter, the international law, the Disengagement of Forces Agreement in 1974 and the relevant UNSC resolutions.

The Ministry added that abstention of the UNSC from shouldering its responsibilities in deterring these dangerous Israeli attacks will be considered as a failure of the Council to play the role it was tasked with by the UN Charter in maintaining international peace and security in the region, and will constitute a source for destabilization of international security and peace in the region.

The Ministry concluded that Syria holds Israel and its protectors at the UNSC fully responsible for this aggression, stressing Syria’s right to defend itself, territories and sovereignty.

Foreign Ministry Summons UNDOF Commander to Officially Condemn Israeli Aggression

In a relevant context, the Foreign Ministry summoned Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force in the occupied Golan (UNDOF), Major-General Iqbal Singha, informing him of its official condemnation of the Israeli violation of the Israeli-Syria 1974 Disengagement of Forces Agreement and its obligations, after an Israeli warplane violated the Syrian airspace and attacked a scientific research center in Jamraya in Damascus countryside.

The Ministry demanded that the Chief take necessary measures to put the parties concerned at the UN in the image of this grave violation and ensure that it not be repeated.
