SAN JUAN, Texas — A witness says a campaign worker was struck in the leg in a drive-by shooting about 100 yards from a South Texas polling place that doubles as a police and fire station.
Ramiro Trevino says he didn't hear the shot as he stood on a street corner packed with workers and signs during primary day in Texas on Tuesday. Trevino says 55-year-old Jose Sanchez was hit in the right calf but was alert as he was transported to a hospital.
San Juan police Chief Juan Gonzalez tells the Monitor newspaper in McAllen he didn't immediately have a motive for the shooting. He said authorities were looking for a red pickup truck.
